May 8, 2018: Fast for Finding

Dear People,

This fast Sunday we had a mission fast for finding new people who want to learn about Jesus Christ.
The next day (yesterday), we were walking to a bus stop from district meeting and noticed a car was driving along sidewalk slowly following us. We bent down and greeted the elder driver who asked us what church's missionaries we are. We talked a little and when he found out that we were the Book of Mormon church he offered to drive us all the way to where we were going.
He was super awesome and asked genuine questions. We talked about the church the entire 30 minute drive. He has been attending Christian churches for at least 20 years and is very unsatisfied with the way every pastor interprets scripture differently. It felt so so good to talk to someone who understood Christianity and was willing to listen someone else's beliefs. He asked my all time favorite question of "What's your message? Do you go around preaching Joseph Smith?" We explained that we can begin on the path of following Jesus Christ because God has restored the authority to perform baptism. He seemed to understand well and is willing to meet again.

We got out of his car at the mission office to find six missionaries standing in a circle with a man who seemed to be asking about the church. One pair of missionaries broke off with him and went to the church next door to talk more. I found out later that he had met missionaries on the street seven years ago and although he never met with them again, he had a strong feeling as he talked to them that he never forgot. Yesterday he was just walking past the office when he saw the missionaries there and recognized them. He shared his story and said that he wants to have a "신앙 생활" (life of faith). He has a baptismal date for later this month.

There were also a bunch of other miracle stories from other missionaries yesterday.

This morning as we left the house we prayed to be able to reach our goals for meaningful contacts today by opening our mouth. Right as we left the house we started talking to an older man walking past. We found out that his wife passed away two months ago and he is super depressed about it. We told him that the message we are sharing is about how he can see his wife again and families can be forever. We asked if he would have time we could share our message with him hoping we could set up an appointment. He paused for a second then said "Come on in" and we realized he lived in the house right next to our apartment. He seems very humble and very prepared for the gospel.

Good things are happening. Fasting works.

I've had some spiritual lows recently but by focusing on doing the important little things consistently I've been able to learn so much. I love Elder Bednar's talk on meekness. I also love the talk on sacrifice. I recently have felt strong witnesses about President Nelson and the quorum of the twelve Apostles. I know the church is true.

Today's lunch

A super famous Korean bakery that started in Daejeon billions of years ago (not really, it was just the fifties). This is the renovated original building.
